The money will not go to Hamas, the ruling party of the Palestinians, considered terrorists by the US and other countries. One third of the money will be allocated to humanitarian efforts and be delivered by the United Nations and other groups.
I'm proud that I live in a country that helps people around the world that are caught in the middle of conflicts such as this, but my concern is our present economy at home and if we can afford to do these kinds of things.

I think many people have the same concern as you do, not without reason. I think it's great that you are proud to live here, because of the help America gives to others. (I think we need a few more million Daniels in America!) Ok, not really but... :P
